A very small tea bowl. This is a tomato glaze recipe that was formulated to fire to a cone 10. I was taught how how to bring a glaze recipe down, by potter Eric Jackson. All I can say is that it does work. This bowl was fired in my electric kiln using the pyrometer. The bottom of the bowl has a thin coat of turquoise mat glaze.

Tea bowl, regular size. White tin glaze with wood ash glaze and other overglaze pigments decorating the bowl. This under-fired just a little, but bent a cone 9 in electric.

Out of the kiln: I hate to say it, but here in Moulton, Texas it is hot enough to throw a tea bowl, trim it and bisque fire it all in the same day. I am working with a cone seven red clay mixed with a little bit of cone 10 b-mix. I am hoping for a darker clay body fired somewhere around 2246, exact cone still unknown.

Chabaco, this is my first try at making tea bowls for Chabaco. That is a tea ceremony where they use a little wooden box. These bowls would have to fit inside of each other and then into the box, and have the lid close. I haven't ever made nesting bowls, so I expect that this may take me a while to learn.

Ball Mill Jar, these are not easy to come by. I am going to turn my shimpo wheel into a ball mill. Since I have been making my own glazes using a small rock tumbler, I have discovered that using a ball mill process does make a difference in how the finished glazes turn out. It was not easy to find a ball mill, but I did manage.

The shape that comes natural. Try as I may, this is the shape of tea bowl that I always end up making. This is clay made from scrap clay, a red cone 7 clay, 2/3's and one third a white cone 10 clay. To will fire to a dark tan at 2246 degrees F, oxidation.
